Sports Injury Clinic

Sports Injury Clinic in Hersham, Walton-on-Thames, Esher and Thames Ditton

Whether you’re a serious sports person or a keen amateur who likes to exercise at the weekend, there’s nothing more frustrating than suffering from injuries, aches, pains and niggles.

I’m an osteopath based in Hersham, Walton-on-Thames, operating a full sports injury clinic service. I have 20 years experience treating all kinds of sporting injuries, from professional sportspeople to those just getting back into exercise. I am also involved with a number of local sports clubs and teams, providing treatment, massage and advice to both members and parents.

I am focused on your recovery and getting you back into action as quickly as possible. I provide a full aftercare plan and stretches and exercises to rehabilitate and reload the affected area and get you quickly back into your chosen sport. If you do not see an improvement in your symptoms after 2-3 visits I will refer you to a different healthcare professional for treatment.

To book an appointment or free 15-minute consultation or if you would like more information about what I do, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Types of Sports Injuries I Treat

I see people for a wide range of typical sporting injuries. Common injuries I treat include:

Sprains and strains where a muscle, tendon or ligament has been forced beyond its normal range of motion (‘pulling a muscle’). This might happen as a result of overstretching or overloading, and typically results in a sudden and sharp pain in the affected area.

Repetitive injuries including various forms of tendonitis such as tennis or golfer’s elbow, and plantar fasciitis (inflammation in the heel and the bottom of the foot). These injuries come on slowly as a result of overuse, and the pain may vary. For example, you may feel very little pain once warmed up and using the affected area, but feel a lot of pain when waking in the morning.

Joint injuries such as an injury to your knee, shoulder, ankle, etc. These may be a form of sprain or strain, or caused by a direct trauma, such as a bad tackle or landing awkwardly.

Sports Massage

Whatever the cause or nature of your injury, I will look to treat not only the injury itself but also any secondary symptoms or underlying causes. For example, an injury may be caused by postural issues resulting from other unresolved issues, or may lead to you unconsciously adapting your movements to compensate, potentially causing further problems.

Treating Sports Injuries with Osteopathy

Osteopathy is an ideal treatment for many sports injuries. We work with a wide range of treatments including massage, mobilisation and direct joint and spinal manipulation. This allows the osteopath to tailor the treatment to use the most appropriate techniques for any given case.

Osteopaths are also experts in the musculoskeletal system as a whole, allowing us to identify any other potential problem areas and ensure your body is functioning as efficiently and healthily as possible. I can also give you advice on staying healthy and avoiding future injuries, with specific stretches or loading exercises to build up strength and function in the affected area.

Returning Safely to Sport

Many injuries flare up again when people try to return to sport too quickly. Injured areas of the body may feel pain-free whilst still not back to full health, and the inactivity during injury may also cause the area to weaken. These factors mean injury is more likely when returning to activity.

I can guide you in rehabilitating and reloading any injured areas, and advise on how well recovered an injury really is, ensuring you get back into your sport safely and at a rate that avoids any further injury.
